Open Question: Any suggestions on my application essay for culinary school?
THE STARVING ARTIST
Licked plates and a pat on the back was every that I needed. This simple gesture of kindness from the right person and I knew that there was more to just this “hobby” I had. There was more to the food, which by now only left a trace through scattered morsels in mismatched Tupperware bowls and disposable baking tins. The same way an artist stares at a blank canvas I now stare at raw ingredients and envision what I can paint, except a nine inch stainless steel knife is my paintbrush; thanks to one phenomenal person.
I was never an ideal student, I often ignored rules, never really applied myself fully, and felt that school was lackluster; but Mrs.(Omitted) was not a conventional teacher, she saw through people and knew how to relate to students. She knew from week one there was something more to the facade I carried, and she never gave up on trying to make me not only a better student but a better person. It took her a month to pry out a secret passion of mine, cooking. Her eyes lit up when I mentioned it, and I shrugged it off claiming it was just a hobby; of course she saw through me. She divulged her adore of cooking and eventually coaxed me into making food for an upcoming Gallery Show. We planned the menu, time-frame, and an execution plan. She gave me suggestions, tips and even some of her possess recipes; including a phenomenal taco croissant recipe that introduced me to fusion cuisine. I had no idea at the time but she had strategically given me everything I needed to be successful.
The day of the show arrives, I receive to work three hours before the opening, methodically timing and executing each item. Food for fifty plus guests was a daunting task but I persisted, and put forth an array of a buffet. Mrs.(Omitted) made sure to taste everything on the table before the food disappeared . Everybody raved about the food, and I knew she was proud of me. I’ll never forget the Show that night.. every my friends, everybody’s art, every the food, and the feeling of accomplishment that Mrs. (Omitted) helped me achieve. From that point on food became a matter of self-expression rather than reproducing recipes, creating a memorable experience as opposed to just feeding people, and pursuing what I adore.
Paradoxically, the food I eat now makes me hungry; I strive to learn anything I can about culinary world. My art teacher taught me more than just complimentary colors and brushstrokes; she taught me that art is not just on a piece of paper, it is in the world around you, and inside of you. It is a reflection of emotion and a projection of your inner self. This is what the culinary arts mean to me and looking back, that one person helped me to understand more than just art and food.

Open Question: Artpad.art.com help about recovering old artpad work?
Okay, so in 2006, I went to artpad.art.com and made four "pieces". I remembered my drawings, and went searching high and low through the internet and my email to find the four links. Lo and behold, I found them on a site I used to go to. Anyway, I click on the links, and none of them work. It pops up to the screen, and it shows a blank canvas, although the address bar still shows the link I clicked.
I was just wondering if there was anyway to receive them back. I don't need them forever, just long enough so I can download it.
I know this is probably a lost cause, but I made them for my little cousins, and they would adore to look it. I've checked archive.org, and nothing comes up.
I'll post the links, and if anybody can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

No, I'm glad to look that I'm not the only one with these problems. The only other thing I could think to do was to email them and look if they keep them to a difficult steer or something. Maybe if I try it on another computer it'll work...

Open Question: Photograph of man riding rhinoceros?
A few years ago in an art gallery I saw a old black and white photo of a man riding a rhino. I think the rhino was charging toward the photographer. It looked like a photo taken many years ago in an African safari setting. Do you have info about this photo or have any idea about who the photographer might have been?

Resolved Question: Do you think it's possible to be friends with benefits with this girl?
She's someone I've known for 4 months. She's very attractive, but I only look her as a pal. I've asked, and she says that we're just friends. But I would like to be friends with benefits, and was thinking about doing something about it. However, despite her saying we're just friends, I think she is emotionally attached to me. She admits to being mad the one time I canceled on dinner, she gets jealous when I take other girls places. We talk everyday, and look each other at least once a week. She asked me to an art gallery and dinner this week, but was very nervous about it. Also, she's been trying to convince me to take her to a picnic, and take a day trip to the country and do dinner and a play.
I've asked her several times..."are we just friends." She says, "Yes, just because we hang out a lot; doesn't mean anything." I guess my question is...would it be so wrong to suggest to her that we snooze together? Given that she is emotionally attached, would it be easy to propose being friends with benefits?

Open Question: The film where a penis falls off a statue...?
What is the film where the character is in an art gallery/museum, they touch what I remember to be a 'fertility symbol' and the big penis falls off. They are embarrassed, so they hide it in their trousers and rush to the bathroom, where they bump into a lady who helps him to stick it on the statue with chewing gum. I can't find the answer anywhere! thanks!

Open Question: Artist who uses paint splatters and shapes them into humans?
I saw this person's work in an art gallery in Italy or France last year. In a tiny town that had torture museums and a Hello Kitty store. The paintings were paint splatters shaped into a man sitting on the ground, and another painting was of a man screaming. The canvas was entirely white except for the splatters. If anyone has any idea what I am talking about or if this sounds similar PLEASE tell me who this person is or link me to a photo. I am desperate to know.

Resolved Question: When a girl says they don't like you...it means they don't like you right?
She's my sister's best pal, I've known for over a decade, but only started speaking to her 4 months ago. I figure we're friends because she tells me there's this boy she's interested in college, as well, I tell her my girl problems. She's told me, "yep, we're just friends." Which is what I want. Lately she's giving me odd vibes. She was with my sister at a bar, when I called her once, and she confessed that she's been hiding our friendship from my sister. We do talk everyday, and go out often. For instance, today I picked her up, grabbed some coffee, then took a walk on the beach, it was the first time I hung out with her in two weeks because of how odd she's acting. She admitted to getting upset when I canceled on dinner, she got jealous when I told her I was taking this girl to an art gallery. She said she had been droping hints that she wanted me to take her. Recently, she's been calling on Friday nights wanting to go out...but I am already out. She very nervously asked me to the museum, and an upscale dinner this week. Which is odd because we hang out enough that it shouldn't make her nervous. Finally, she's been suggesting things like picnics, candlelit dinners, and day trips out to the country to watch a play are things that her and I can do, because friends do these things.
She says she doesn't have feelings, should I just believe her? She could just be acting like a girl. I mean, she says there's a guy in school she's interested in. Is it time to back off? Or should I just believe her?

Resolved Question: How do I present my work to the owner of an art gallery?
I'm planning on meeting the owner of an art gallery to show her my work and hopefully have it in her gallery.
I draw pictures on regular drawing paper with graphite pencils. Do I just take my pictures the way they are in a portfolio without any sort of framing? Will the gallery frame the art themselves?

Resolved Question: Do the brands really matter when buying drawing pencils?
I draw with regular graphite drawing pencils. I have the whole range of Hs to Bs and an F. I have stuck to one brand (because of the cheaper price,) so far. The pencils I'm using now are every Reeves (except for one lonely Derwent pencil.)
What are the differences between brands? Do every pencils do the same thing, or do some brands actually have more benefits than others? Is there any point in buying the more expensive brands, or should I stick with what I've got?
If it makes any difference, I'm producing work I'd like to have in art galleries, not just sketches.

There's this girl I've known for 4 months. I don't understand what she's doing recently. She's still in college, and is actually my younger sister's best pal. Voting Question: GCSE Art Exam...layers?
I just recieved my GCSE Art exam paper and I am with the AQA board. I have chosen the topics as layers and was wondering if anyone had any ideas of backgrounds I could do for my prep work on this. I was obviously thinking of deep, textured backgrounds to link to the layering but I think it might be a bit to literal if they every are. Also I was wondering if anybody knew of any artists that I could use or galleries which have pieces which are related to "layers". As an extra-anyone nave any ideas for a final piece (this is for interest-I will probably think of one as time goes on but at the moment I have blanked):S

Resolved Question: Do you think my friend has feelings for me? She's confusing...?
I thought I would have figured women out by now...guess not. She's someone I've known for half a year. I thought we were just close friends. We do call or text everyday, and have dinner once a week. She's told me she's interested in this guy who goes to college with her; and she knows I am involved with someone already. So I figured I am safe. Lately though, she's giving me weird vibes. She admitted to receive upset the last time I canceled on dinner plans, and she got jealous when I told her I was going to this art gallery; she told me she had been dropping hints that she wants to go. A few days ago, she very nervously asked me to the museum and dinner. I agreed, but found it odd that she was so nervous because we hang out often...this should be no different. However, yesterday she mentioned how she wanted to go on a picnic, and that it was okay for friends to go to picnics together. Her bestfriend is an acquaintance of mine, and our only mutual pal; she told that she's been hiding our friendship from her because she didn't think that it would be approved.
She's really confusing me. It's not like I hold her hand, or anything when we go out. I always call her a pal, and I fill her in on my adore life. Are these things every in my head, and I should just believe her when she says we're just friends? Because that's how I would like things right now.

Unlike those available for painting, the opportunities to exhibit sculpture in the United-States around the turn of the twentieth century were quite scarce. There was almost no room for sculpture at the influential Fine Arts Society's 57th road Galleries in New York. As tardy as 1905, the Monumental News, a journal dedicated to promotion of sculpture, lamented, "Exhibitions of sculptors' works are so comparatively rare." In response to this dire predicament, (he sculptor Frederick W. Ruckstull and Charles de Kay, art editor of the newspaper The New York Times, founded the National Sculpture Society (NSS) in 1893, the first organization dedicated solely to the advancement of sculpture.
Incorporated in 1896 to promote sculptural production and encourage the exhibition and sale of the plastic arts, the National Sculpture Society (NSS) elected John Quincy Adams Ward (1830-1910), the prestigious sculptor of public monuments, to serve as its first president, an office he held from 1893 to 1905. During the last twenty years of his life, ward dedicated much time to public and private organizations that promoted public art. To the end, he headed the NSS committee that oversaw the sculptural decoration of the Library of Congress Reading Room in Washington D.C. as well as the building and decorating of the Dewey Arch—a monument in New York to honor Admiral George Dewey. He was a champion of the City Beautiful Movement— an effort to increase the presence of urban art—and defended the central role that sculpture played in its national program.
The National Sculpture Society promoted the production of sculpture by standardizing procedures for competitions, enhancing the professional status of sculptors, and encouraging commissions for American sculpture in homes, public buildings, parks, and squares. Moreover, ii included members in its organization who were not sculptors, hoping to close the gap between artists and the great body of the people, not merely well-to-do patrons, bui the working public. The NSS encouraged the commission and purchase of sculptures for both private consumption—home and garden—and for public enjoyment—parks and squares. Through this campaign, tiny-scale sculptures—either reductions of monumental artworks or smaller-sized originals—were brought to the attention of an interested public.

Voting Question: Is it illegal just to leave school ? HELP?
Now today me and my pal left fourth period and did not return so missing fourth fifth and sixth period. My pal wrote me and herself a note and we both got Out of school permits allowing us to leave the building. But cause i suffer from panic attacks my parents need to talk to my guidance teacher tomorrow, and my guidince teacher will tell them about my out of school allow which my exuse said psycologist and she will be wondering how it went and my parents will be like what the hell? He should of been in school && then shell arrive looking for me and sick be like FUCK! so any ideas what i can say me and my pal were doing etc? Cause im scared and have no ideas? Is it lllegal just to leave school without permission? HELP! btw we just went to the art galleries and to town so still educaitional lmfao xD

Resolved Question: Should i ask him out?
So I met this guy at a pal's party and I pretty much spent the entire time dancing with him. I gave him my number and he called me twice the following week. During our conversations i mentioned a party that i was planning and he expressed interest in attending so I told him he could arrive. At my party he asked me to go out with him a week later and I did. We had a good time, we were hoding hands at one point and he nice of tried to kiss me but I avoided it :) He asked me if i'd like to go out with him again and I said yes. I like him and I want to receive to know him better but he hasn't called since the date and it's been almost 2 weeks.
I sent him a text to thank him for the wonderful date and he responded saying that we should "make it more fun next time". He also sent another text 2 days later asking why i haven't responded to his texts. I text him back saying i never received his texts then I called him later and left him a message asking him to call me back.
We both adore art so I'm going to the opening of an art gallery with some friends tomorow so I don't know if i should call him and ask him to arrive with me or if I should just assume that he is not that into me and move on. I'd adore to know what you think. Thanks!

Resolved Question: What are these things called?
You know how sometimes you go to fancy stores, for long line ups instead of putting up bars they put up those stick things with the rope connecting to one another. They are also in art galleries so that people don't go to close to the art.

Resolved Question: USA Travel: Best place to visit if you are interested in arts, architecture, and non commercial shopping?
We are not from the United States and as avid travelers we are planning a trip down to the states. Aside from the obvious tourist stops (New York, Las Vegas, Disney Land, San Fransisco, etc), were would you recommend people like us visit? We are interested in the arts community (museums, festivals, galleries, shows), historical architecture, and eclectic shopping (think local boutiques with one-of-a-nice knick knacks, no commercial shops) . We loathe commercial spots such as malls and zoos for example. We are also interested in natural spots that don't require camping or extended stays but can instead be viewed in 1 day. FYI: We are in adore with places like Montreal, Maine, Halifax, Krakow... We've been reading for a few weeks now, and the same locations keep popping up (NY, CA, FL, etc). Any help from experience or recommendations for books or net sources would be awesome.

Resolved Question: Why was she nervous asking me to dinner?
I've known her for 4 months. But I always figured we were just friends; she's told me she's interested in this other guy, and I am seeing 2 other people (no serious), she knows I have a complicated romantic life as it is. Anyways, we call or text pretty much every night, and go for dinner or coffee at least once a week. Tonight she calls me; after a while, she very nervously says "I have a proposal for you. I know you wanted to go to the art gallery with that girl; but she always takes too long to receive dressed up. So I was thinking; maybe we can go there and have dinner after." I said sure, and we picked a date. What striked me as odd was that, a few days ago when I told her I was going to take the other girl there, she got really jealous. Also the last time I cancelled plans on her, she got really upset, even though it wasn't last minute. Here, she was nervous asking me to do something; I found that odd because we do hang out quite a bit...she shouldn't find it odd to ask me. Am I making a big deal out of nothing? Or does she have a crush on me?

obviously, i am a big fan of Sigh, as their album "Hail Horror Hail" is my avator....but not sure what i think of this album yet. It seems like they wanted to increase the "heaviness" of their sound after "Gallows Gallery", but i kinda miss the experimental aspects from "Imaginary Sonicscape" which i think is their best album. It is interesting to look how much each album of theirs is different, but these songs have yet to grab me like prior ones have
MQ: for those who have heard this album or initial impression, what are your thoughts?
