Open Question: Am I good enough to open some simple deviantart commissions?
I am 14 this year, and am hoping to open up some simple (mostly pokemon perhaps?) commissions. I have been drawing for 1 year, and started working digitally on photoshop for the past 2 months. Do you think they are good enough? If not, some comments on why not would be really appreciated.
Here is my deviantart account: www.starfire-wolf.deviantart.com
Here are some other samples of my art: http://starfire-wolf.deviantart.com/art/BatteryMunkey-Contest-Entry-171390986?q=sort%3Atime+gallery%3Astarfire-wolf&qo=3 http://www.starfire-wolf.deviantart.com/#/d2uninc
Also, is $3 reasonable for a lineart and $4 for a full coloured picture? Thank you for your honest comments.
To K: *is shocked*

Open Question: What Canon SLR Body should I buy?
I am looking into upgrading my canon 10D body which is lacking some of the newer technologies so id like to receive a new body! :D
Ive been looking at the Canon XS, XSi, and the t1s bodies. What is the best for the money? Is it worth getting a used t1s body over a new XS or XSi body? Is the T1S really worth the extra money in terms of general use? Im not a professional. Its just a hobby that i took up a year or so ago, and am getting good according to my Photography teacher (Im in high school, and recently got one of my pictures strung up in an art gallery!). So since then i thought to myself "I should upgrade my equipment!
So what does yahoo think? The XS? XSi? or t1s?
Keep in mind i have a max budget of around 550 max. So thats just enough for a new t1s body. What do you every think?
Thanks, -W

I came across this dude on facebook who's a tattooist, had a look at his gallery and I came across a tattoo on a client which I had seen on the internet on somebody else's arm. The exact same tattoo!! I think that's outrageous. That's just stealing. Tattoo artists are supposed to arrive up with original art for their clients right? What do you think?

Open Question: I need to know these paintings?
I went to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC a few months ago and there was a room with a painting on each wall. It was a set of paintings every by the same artist and they every represented a different age. One was childhood, one was adolescence, one was adulthood, and the final one was old age. In each one, the man was in a boat, and in each one there was an angel in the painting.
I remember that the artist focused a lot on light, and the supposed message had to do with our relationships with god throughout our life.
It was in the classical art wing, and as I said, it had it's possess tiny room, and one portrait was on each wall. I wish I could remember the artist to make it easier, but I can't. Sorry!

Voting Question: Anyone got any advice for traveling to Paris in August 2010?
Hi guys,
I'm off to Paris next week, the hotel and eurostar are sorted and I wondered if anyone has any advice they can offer on the following:
Getting around the city
Saving money or discounts
Dress codes in restaurants (shoes, casual shoes or trainers for men?)
Resturants that are nice and not overly expensive
Places to visit + places to avoid
Any hidden art galleries, shops or music cafe's that are good?
Any art/music related places we might miss
Any good books or travel guides on Paris
Thanks everyone!!!
Hi, thanks for the information, if anyone else would like to add anything please do.
We're staying in the 17th district in a luxury boutique hotel which I'm sure will be nice but am concerned about the area as its not central. Is it nice? I've heard there are two famous restaurants there and the Arc De'Triomphe is very close by.
Oh sorry, I meant is 17th district safe??? I read on that link some of the districts should be avoided, especially at night! :-(

Anything? I'm willing to buy more than one book, if that's what I must do.
Thanks!

I'm an aspiring professional fine artist (painting, sculpting) and currently in art school. Open Question: What would be an ideal itinerary for an artistic teenage girl exploring Beijing solo for a couple of days?
I've spent quite a bit of time in Beijing in the past, so I've already been to the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace and most of the other popular spots, and am eager to stray off the traditional tourist path now and explore new territory. I have been volunteering in a rural area of another province the past few weeks and am glad to be back in a cosmopolitan city, but I don't want to just spend my time here shopping, and that's every that has been suggested to me thus far. Some adults are flying in tomorrow, but they're going to play tourist while I do my possess thing, so I need to arrive up with my plan of action.
I want to avoid the places where the tourist buses flock, but as a blonde American teenager who stands out in the crowd here, I don't want to wander so far off the beaten path on my possess I'll be putting myself more at risk of encountering problems. The other consideration is my health. I'm a bit below the weather at the moment, and it would be awesome to spend some time in a museum or art galleries out of the draining heat. A few recommendations would be really appreciated.
I know I have quite a bit of criteria to meet, so I will be every the more grateful for any help anyone can give me in creating my itinerary. Xie xie in advance. : )

I am basing them off characters from samurai champloo ( http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://static1.animepaper.net/upload/thumbs/wallpapers/Samurai-Champloo/%255Blarge%255D%255BAnimePaper%255Dwallpapers_Samurai-Champloo_Bantam_-edit401.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/wallpapers/showcase/item12165/&usg=__Ki2QqE7jGDWfXWHdcZzIzsZ1b6c=&h=432&w=576&sz=36&hl=en&start=68&sig2=SN2VW88QSyvhAWBQd7EVbg&tbnid=pihftnz8XBjYeM:&tbnh=118&tbnw=150&ei=eLNLTP-qGcT48Aagt5E2&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsamurai%2Bchamploo%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D540%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C1877&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=443&vpy=183&dur=934&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=182&ty=115&page=5&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:14,s:68&biw=1024&bih=540) ......................................................................................... The thing is, I need some nice of uniform resembling a samurai... but most kendo unifroms are expensive and difficult for me to find... I am not taking martial arts ( although I have always wanted to)... but, I don't want my movie to look crappy.... is there any other ideas, or thoughts, maybe substitutes for buying one of these... I don't know much about these, and I'd have to order it online... what could I do... please and thanks!

Voting Question: What programs, such as photoshop, do I need to create complex art.?
I've been a big fan of the website Deviantart for a while now. I've arrive across some amazing things. There are two things that I want to ask, first of every. What sort of programs to people you to create their possess original pieces. How might someone go about doing something like this:
http://taenaron.deviantart.com/#/d1y8iul
Or say a manipulation of a photo, such as this one:
http://vhm-alex.deviantart.com/gallery/#/dzevb6
Along with the program(s) used to make these things, are there guides that exist?
Or am I simply going to have to start slow, and tutor myself?
Thanks, Zach
[edit] I am willing to spend money, but would prefer not to.

Resolved Question: Optimization Help!!!?
A painting in an art gallery has height h and is hung so that its lower edge is a distance d over the eye of an observer (as in the figure). How far from the wall should the observer stand to receive the best view? (In other words, where should the observer stand so as to maximize the angle θ subtended at his eye by the painting?)
Thanks!

Resolved Question: [Reposted due to glitch] Five days in Scandinavia in early October - where to go, what to do?
Starting from London (England) on the morning of Day One (or possibly the evening of Day Zero) and finishing up somewhere close Lubeck/Hamburg (Germany) on the evening of Day Five.
My initial thoughts are that it might be fun to fly to Stockholm for a look around, and then make my way to Oslo, then Copenhagen, then on to Germany.
Firstly, what do you think of those three cities as destinations? I've literally just picked them off Google maps as being big. Is there somewhere else I should go instead? If there is some other feature in one of these countries that is a destination in itself, I would be just as glad to visit that instead.
Secondly, is this too much? Would I be able to do Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen, including travelling between them, in five days? I don't want to look and do _everything_, just a day or two of wandering around and seeing the sights and soaking up the atmosphere. I'm not bothered about museums or art galleries as we're a bit spoiled for that in London so it's not a priority when I go somewhere else. If there was a nice day-trip out of town to look something special (interesting geography and similar) I'd want to do that, although if it's just scenery then travelling from A to B by train might be just as good. Any suggestions for things that I must look while I'm there?
Thirdly, I'd adore some advice on travelling between these places once I receive there. I'm not sure where to start and I don't know what my options are.
Is there a good (fun/interesting/straightforward) way to receive from Stockhom to Oslo, or would I need to jump back on a plane? If I need to fly, I might skip Stockholm this time around as I would like to look a bit of the countryside as well as the cities and am more interested in e.g. ferries and trains for that reason. I don't steer so a hire car is not an option.
It seems you can receive from Oslo to Copenhagen by overnight ferry which might be useful.
What's the best way to receive from Copenhagen to Germany? Would I need to fly, or is there a train or ferry - where does it take you to?
And finally, is there anything important that I should know before I take this idea any further? Like, say, if October's a really stupid time to be doing this? Can I receive by with only English? Am I going to starve to death because I don't like raw fish? :)
You don't have to answer every of this, I know it's really long, any help at every would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Resolved Question: i need some idea for things to do in London next week, help!?
Hi.
Next week i am heading to London to visit with family in Camberwell. After that i want to meet up with a mate and do something but i need to be back on a train by about 6. So i need something that is close to either Victoria or Charing Cross (preferably Victoria) that is also free and would take us about maybe 2 or 3 hours.
We both like museums and galleries but he prefers photographic art whereas i like paintings and sculpture. If museums are in order i would liek something quirky.
Cheers.

Open Question: Searching for my grandfather's paintings signed by Wells.?
My grandfather passed away in 2008. During the tardy 70's, 80's, 90's and before 2005 he sold many of his paintings and I am searching for them. His amateur paintings were signed Wells. His full name was Emil J. Wells and he looked exactly like Colonel Sanders. He sold many of his paintings in Manitowoc, WI. where he lived for over 50 years. While he was living in Corpus Christi, TX he also sold his paintings to a Chicago art gallery he spoke of every the time. Unfortunately, I do not know the name of the man or gallery. every I know was it was in Chicago where he used to live in his youth. I try several times a month looking on Ebay just in case someone may have one of them listed. I have had no luck. He painted mostly amateur nature pictures, animals, and birds. I was extremely close to my grandfather and would like to find any of his paintings or at least receive a picture of it if the person is not willing to sell it. I inherited every the paintings that he had at the time of his death, but I know many (over 100 paintings) are still out there today. I would know immediately by the signature and artwork if it is my grandfathers painting. Does anyone know how I could post that I am searching for these paintings?

Resolved Question: What are you doing with your Art degree?
Seriously, anyone with an art degree actually have an art-centered career? I work in an office, and just work on art projects on the side and show/sell at area galleries... but not often.

Voting Question: Native American tlingit tattoo?
I'm not tlingit but I adore their art, I want to receive a tlingit raven tattoo, but I was wondering if it was appropriate since I'm not tlingit. It would look like this ( http://www.alcheringa-gallery.com/images/gallery/dheron-1044-6158.jpg ). But I'm having my native american(not tlingit, another tribe) aunt draw it for me, so it'll basically look like that, but not really.
I really hate culture vultures, so I wanted to know opinions about if its like stealing someones culture, or borrowing art?
